• All good things must come to an end

Well It’s been a week long whirlwind tour of the state of North Carolina. We landed at the Raleigh/Durham airport(rdu) a week ago. That night we met with some family that I hadn’t seen face to face for quite some time. I’m still in the process of starting to sort out some demons from my past as well. I’ll provide more about that in a post to come.

  • Not understanding the rampant disinformation.

Now I know that certain people will descend upon me for pointing out the obvious. It’s been proven time and time again throughout history in times of armed conflicts going all of the way back to middle ages. As a student of both world and United States history.

As we’ve seen in the armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia as well as the Israel Palestinian conflict. You will likely realize that both the Ukraine Russia and Israel Palestinian wars we’ll also see the application of rape as a weapon of war by Russians and Palestinians are both employing this technique to induce fear and doubt in the opposing side.

Going all of the back to both Operation desert storm in the early 1990s to Operation Iraqi freedom in the the early 2000s.

All this being said, another thing that really gets my goat is that the US and it’s other western allies seem to have this false since if “we need to plays world policeman”. I really think that this is a rampantly false thought pattern as I see it because it seems that ever since the current armed conflict in the middle east. No I know that all parties whom have come to gather to negotiate (broker) a piece agreement. I’m going to take a step back and place my faith in all parties enveloped as I know deep down in my empathetic soul of souls that the current ugly situation in the middle east.

  • Why I try my hardest not to use Social Media

Now I know that I’m going to incur all kinds of slurs for making my best efforts to steer clear of social media. I’ll admit that despite my best efforts to stay off of social media platforms such as X(formally twitter) or Facebook. I wind up having to use Facebook because certain family members and friends as well as groups/organizations that I associate with use Facebook to allow their members to connect as well as communicate and coordinate gatherings of their members and supporters.

On the flip side of the coin I’ll admit that I’m significantly shortchanging myself in the area of networking with those whom share my interests and like political beliefs that I do. Although despite my knocking all of the “main stream” social media platforms, I ‘m aware that by doing this I’m practicing what in my eyes is a cyber security approach by minimizing potential attack surface.

I also do rather prefer to not get sucked into the constant slur slinging fests that can and do occasionally tend to bread on social media platforms suck as former president Trumps truth social. I tend to want to avoid certain polarizing communities such as truth social this is because I don’t want to have the potential of being associated with the “far right wing” of the republican party”party of Trump”.

The other point that I’d like to point out that I’m not all that well versed in the social sciences, but I know that if I try my hardest to avoid controversial influences on social media and on mainstream media outlets like CBS,NBC,ABC,etc, etc. Let’s not forget the polarized media outlets like Fox News for example and let’s not forget to mention CNBC,MSNBC,etc, etc.

  • The story of my progression Towards My current Unix-Like Operating System advanced user status

Although I’m still a fairly new GNU/Linux user I do know that even though I’ve been using GNU/Linux and other FOSS software packages.

I started my Linux journey back in the early 2000;s when you really only had three choices SlackWare,Debian or the really early generations of Ubuntu. I really enjoyed learning the learning process involved in getting Debian installed and working correctly on both and old Compaq Persario of some vintage or another and A Hp Laptop that was really for typing school assignments.

I worked around thees pain points one of which was the issue of getting WiFi cards based on Broad-Com chip-sets to work correctly via use of the bw43-cutter tool which was a huge nuisance. I can also remember how big a headache it was to get ATI Readon Video Card working under Linux.

I’m also decently versed in the workings of the Operating system licensed under the MIT and BSD license structure. Again I can also remember the time and effort that was required of the user, in order to get everything from Sound and graphics to WiFi adapters to work correctly. Most of my experience on the BSD side of things comes from using FreeBSD both on legacy and more modern hardware.

    • My most common choices for Unix-Like operating systems
    • My favorite Alternative Operating Systems
    • Debian
    • Red Had Enterprise Linux
    • Antix
    • NetBSD
    • FreeBSD
    • OpenBSD

The first machine that I installed Linux on was a mid to late 1990s. My first experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, I purchased a guide book at a local Barnes and Nobel that came with a copy of RHEL. This is where things start getting really uniquely odd. I dove right into configuring an old Pentium 3 or 4 pased Compaq of some model or another. I installed RHEL on the hard drive and then dove into configuring the machine as both a SAMBA file server and a CUPS print server and let me tell you that the second part of the adventure got annoyingly tricky as cups didn’t have the correct LPD files for the crappy Lexmark printer my family had at the time.
